In the third and decisive ODI against New Zealand being played at the Holkar Stadium in Indore, Kohli rescued Team India from trouble by scoring a brilliant century in 91 balls. This is his 54th century in ODI career and 85th century in his international career.

Kohli’s batting has been in consistent form since the third ODI of the Australia tour last year. He top-scored in the ODI series against South Africa and made a strong start to the series against New Zealand. He scored a half-century in the first match, only to miss out on a century by seven runs. He managed just 23 runs in the second match, but then returned to form in the third.
With this century, Kohli set several important records. He holds the record for most ODI centuries against New Zealand (7), while this was his 41st ODI century on Indian soil. He surpassed legendary batsmen like Virender Sehwag and Ricky Ponting to achieve this feat. Kohli’s brilliant innings was studded with eight fours and two sixes.
This performance has put him just 15 centuries shy of Sachin Tendulkar (100 centuries). If Kohli continues scoring centuries at this pace, he is within his reach of challenging this legendary record in world cricket. This innings by Virat Kohli not only symbolizes his personal achievement, but also played a crucial role in keeping Team India in the decisive match. This innings once again proves that Virat Kohli is a player who can withstand pressure and change matches.
