New Delhi: Sometimes, money is deducted from UPI accounts unexpectedly, without any notification. There are also instances where a message about a deduction from a UPI account arrives, but the user has no record of making any payment. Even if you haven’t done any online shopping or transferred money to anyone, you might still receive such a message, leaving you confused and trying to figure out the source of the deduction.
If this is happening to you, it’s important to understand the reason. The cause could be an auto-pay subscription linked to your UPI account. Often, we activate auto-pay for OTT platforms, mobile recharges, music streaming, and other digital services, and then forget about it. Later, we realise it’s on auto-pay, but by then, the money has already been deducted.

Understanding the Hidden Aspects of Auto-Pay
Surprisingly, the auto-pay feature was designed for user convenience. However, this feature can sometimes lead to financial losses. Subscriptions continue even after the trial period ends. Furthermore, with auto-pay active on multiple apps, it’s easy to lose track of where the money is being deducted from.
All these factors can significantly increase your expenses. At the end of the month, some people realise how much money has been deducted unnecessarily from their accounts, but you can easily manage this using a government portal.

How to Manage Everything Through the Government Portal
Did you know that NPCI is working on providing a solution to this problem? Through NPCI’s official website (https://www.upihelp.npci.org.in), users can manage all auto-payments related to their accounts. You simply need to log in using your phone number. This eliminates the need to navigate through the settings of your UPI app.
All your UPI-linked auto-pay subscriptions will be displayed in one place. From here, you can directly pause or revoke any auto-pay subscription. Pausing an auto-pay will temporarily stop the deductions, while revoking it will completely cancel the subscription. This means you can easily prevent unauthorised deductions from your account.
