PF Number : For employed individuals, their Provident Fund (PF) is considered the safest source of their hard-earned money. However, after changing jobs, employees often forget their old PF number. This problem is especially serious for those who worked before 2014, when the Universal Account Number (UAN) did not exist. Each company assigned a different PF number, and a new PF account was created upon joining a new job. Therefore, finding the old PF number can be quite a challenge.
EPFO reveals an easy way
Recognizing this problem for employees, the EPFO has now offered a solution. According to the EPFO, even if you don’t have your old PF number, you can still locate your account. To do this, first visit the Unified Member Portal (unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.gov.in).

Here you can log in or register with your mobile number. Then, select ‘Track Claim Status’ or ‘One Member One EPF Account’. Enter your Aadhaar, PAN, and old PF number and the system will search for old records, even those dating back to 2010. If your KYC is up-to-date and your Aadhaar is linked to your UAN, you can also check your passbook instantly.
PF withdrawals are now easier
The EPFO launched EPFO 3.0 in 2026. Under this plan, PF withdrawals are now possible through ATMs and UPI. This means that employees no longer need to visit a branch to withdraw their PF. For example, an employee named Ram left his private firm in 2011. He created a new PF account at his new job and forgot about his old one. Fifteen years later, he needed money for his wedding. He downloaded the UMANG app and selected the “Forgot UAN” option. He created a new UAN using his name, date of birth, and Aadhaar number and merged it with his old account. In just 10 days, he received Rs 3 lakh, including interest.

EPFO advises employees to link all their old PF accounts to their UAN. This will not only make it easier to track their accounts but will also simplify the process of withdrawing or transferring funds in the future.
Experts believe this move brings relief to millions of employees who lost their old PF account information. Now, even if they suddenly need money, they won’t have to worry.
