Gas Price: The first morning of 2026 brings a significant update on the kitchen and business fronts. While the price of commercial LPG cylinders used in hotels and restaurants has been hiked by a whopping ₹111, piped PNG gas supplied to homes in Delhi-NCR has become cheaper. The unchanged price of domestic LPG (14.2 kg) has brought some relief to the general public, but dining out may now become more expensive.

Oil companies have dealt a significant blow to businesses celebrating the New Year. According to Indian Oil’s new rate list, the price of 19 kg commercial cylinders has increased significantly. This increase will directly increase the costs of the catering and food industries. In Delhi, the price of a 19-kg cylinder has now increased from ₹1,580.50 to ₹1,691.50.

In Kolkata, the rate has risen from ₹1,684 to ₹1,795. Similarly, new fixed prices of ₹1,642.50 have been implemented in Mumbai and ₹1,849.50 in Chennai. Hotel and restaurant owners say that these fixed gas prices may force them to increase menu prices, making eating out more expensive for the average person.

Domestic Cooking Gas

While commercial cylinders are skyrocketing, domestic gas cylinder prices have remained stable. This is a positive sign for middle-class families in 2026, as they will not face any additional burden on their monthly budget. The price of a domestic cylinder in Delhi remains stable at ₹853, while in Mumbai it remains at ₹852.50. Consumers in Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh, will have to pay ₹890.50, and in Patna, Bihar, ₹951. While prices remain high in hilly and remote areas due to steep transportation costs, the absence of a new increase on January 1st is a welcome relief.

Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) has given a significant gift to millions of households in Delhi-NCR on the occasion of the New Year. Piped natural gas (PNG) prices have been reduced by ₹0.70 per SCM. This was made possible by significant improvements in pipeline tariffs by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB).

Following this reduction, the new rate in Delhi is ₹47.89 per SCM, while residents of Gurugram will now have to pay ₹46.70 per SCM. In areas like Noida, Greater Noida, and Ghaziabad, the new rate has been set at ₹47.76 per SCM. While this reduction may seem small, the cheaper pipeline gas prices at the beginning of the year will provide a significant boost to your kitchen budget.
