PAN-Aadhaar Link Deadline: The Income Tax Department has alerted taxpayers about the deadline for linking their PAN and Aadhaar cards. If you are among those who have not yet linked your PAN with Aadhaar, this news is extremely important for you. The government-set deadline is rapidly approaching. If you do not complete this process in time, your PAN card will be declared “inoperative” from January 1, 2026.
Can big issues come up if your PAN card gets deactivated?
For most people, having a PAN card deactivated isn’t just about losing a piece of paper; it can really mess up a lot of important things. If your PAN goes inactive after January 1, 2026, you could face some serious problems. First off, you won’t be able to file your Income Tax Return (ITR). Plus, if you have any old tax refunds waiting with the Income Tax Department, they won’t be released either.

But that’s not all. With an inactive PAN, you’ll see Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) and Tax Collected at Source (TCS) taken out at a much higher rate on your financial transactions. This will hit your wallet hard. Also, wherever a PAN card is needed—like when you’re opening a new bank account, investing in mutual funds or the stock market, or dealing with large amounts of money—you’ll run into problems. Basically, having an invalid PAN card can shut you out of banking and investment opportunities.
