PM Surya Ghar Yojana: Rising inflation and skyrocketing electricity bills have ruined the budget of the common man. The best way to reduce this burden on your pocket by 2026 is the “PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana.” This revolutionary initiative, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, aims to connect millions of homes with solar energy. Under this scheme, you will not only receive up to 300 units of free electricity every month, but you can also receive a substantial government subsidy by installing solar panels on your roof.
PM Surya Ghar Yojana
The main objective of the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, launched in February 2024, is to free middle- and low-income families in India from electricity bills. The government has allocated a substantial budget of over ₹75,000 crore for this scheme. The goal is to install solar systems on the rooftops of 10 million homes across the country by 2026-27.

When you install solar panels on your rooftop, you generate the electricity you need. If your home has a system of the right capacity, you can enjoy up to 300 units of free electricity each month. Furthermore, if your system generates more electricity than you need, you can earn additional income by selling it to the grid. This scheme provides you with a strong cushion against future electricity tariff increases.

Find out how much you’ll receive subsidy
The government bears a significant portion of the cost of installing solar panels under this scheme. This substantial subsidy is transferred directly to your bank account. The amount of subsidy depends on the capacity of the system you install. For example, you receive assistance of up to ₹30,000 for a 1-kilowatt system. For a 2-kilowatt system, the government provides a flat subsidy of up to ₹60,000. For a solar plant with a capacity of 3 kilowatts or more, you receive a maximum government subsidy of ₹78,000, significantly reducing your investment burden.
