Before updating documents on your Aadhaar card, it’s essential to check whether document updates are even necessary for your Aadhaar card. You can find out if document updates are mandatory for you simply by using your Aadhaar number.

The UIDAI has stated that document updates are necessary, especially for those whose Aadhaar cards are 10 years old and who have never updated any information such as name, date of birth, or address.

According to the UIDAI, this document update will make service access easier, ensure improved service delivery, and increase the success rate of identity verification (authentication).

Who needs to update their Aadhaar card documents? Here’s how to check:

1) First, you need to visit the official My Aadhaar portal. You can also directly access the official portal by clicking on the link below.

2) Then, on the My Aadhaar portal homepage, click on “Check Aadhaar Validity”.

3) On the next page, enter the Aadhaar number of the person whose Aadhaar card document update status you want to check.

4) After entering the Aadhaar card number, enter the captcha code below and click on “Proceed”.

5) On the next page, you will see the citizen’s Aadhaar information such as Age Band, Gender, State, and whether a mobile number is linked.

6) To verify whether document updates are mandatory for the Aadhaar card, look for the following text at the bottom: “This Aadhaar Number Requires Document (Proof of Identity-POI document & Proof of Address-POA) Update”. If this text is present, then document updates are required for that Aadhaar card. Otherwise, document updates are not necessary.

Online method for Aadhaar card document update:

1) First, you need to visit the My Aadhaar portal. You can directly access the My Aadhaar portal by clicking on the link below.

2) Then, on the homepage, click on “Log In” below “Welcome to myAadhaar”.

3) Enter the Aadhaar card number of the person whose Aadhaar card documents you want to update and click on “Login With OTP”. An OTP will be sent to the mobile number linked to the Aadhaar; enter it and log in.

4. After logging into the Dashboard, select “Document update” once you have clicked on “Next.” Your Aadhaar demographic information (name, address, gender, date of birth) will be displayed after clicking “Next.” You should review the information and check the box stating you verify the correctness of the information before proceeding by clicking on “Next.”

5. On the following page, you will need to upload two records with a limit of 2MB each in JPEG/PNG, PDF format (which should contain proof of Identity and proof of address).

6. The Proof of Identity (POI) can come from any of the following: Driving License, Marriage Certificate, Voter ID, Bank Passbook, Passport, Job Card, Disability Certificate, Educational Qualification Certificate, PAN Card, Ration Card, Caste Certificate (SC/ST/OBC), School Leaving Certificate.

Proof of Address (POA) can come from any of the following: Voter ID, Ration Card, Bank Passbook, Passport, Disability Certificate, Caste Certificate (SC/ST/OBC), Electricity/Water/Gas Bill, School Certificate, and Insurance documents.

7. After uploading the proof of identity and proof of address documentation tick the bottom box and click Next.

8) On the next page, review the application preview and submit it. After submission, you can see the status of your Document Update under “My Online Request” on the home page. Once the application is approved, “Approved” will appear there. Alternatively, you can check the status using the SRN Number from the Acknowledgement receipt you received after applying. Go to the My Aadhaar Portal and click on “Check enrolment or update status” to check the status.
