The National Highways Authority of India has introduced a new rule to protect residents from toll plaza charges. According to the NHAI, vehicle owners living within 20 kilometres of any toll plaza can travel toll-free. The vehicle owner must submit the necessary documents for this.

This requires submitting your Aadhaar card, electricity bill receipt, ration card, or other documents. Additionally, you need to show your address proof at the toll plaza. After verification, you are issued a special public pass. This will eliminate any charges at the toll plaza for daily travel. A single pass will save you from toll tax. This is valid for travel within 20 kilometres of the toll plaza.

This facility is being provided under the GNSS-based Pay As You Use system. This policy will be implemented on a pilot basis on several highways starting in September 2024.

These include central and state government vehicles, police, fire brigades, and ambulances, and teams from the Army, Navy, Air Force, and NDRF.
