Mahindra XEV 9S: The market for electric SUVs is changing rapidly, and Mahindra has made its biggest move in this change. As soon as the new Mahindra XEV 9S is launched, the company has made it clear that it intends to fully occupy the large, practical and family-focused EV segment. This SUV is not just part of Mahindra’s born-electric range, but also India’s first mainstream 3-row electric SUV.
The XEV 9S built on the INGLO platform comes out as the largest EV SUV in its segment with a length of 4,737mm and a wheelbase of 2,762mm. And when an SUV is so big, offer three rows and still be electric, the combat deepens on its own.

Dimensions
The biggest strength of the XEV 9S in its segment is its sheer size. With SUV styling its street appearance seems far more than rivals. The Tata Harrier EV comes close in length, but the XEV 9S is still larger. Kia Carens Clavis EV and BYD eMax come in 7 MPV body-style.

The 150-litre frunk of XEV 9S, large boot and raised third-row increase H-point practicality, although the third line cannot be considered comfortable like Kia Carens. Nevertheless, it is the only full-size 3-row electric SUV in this comparison, making it stand out from both MPV and 2-row EV SUVs.
Powertrain and Range
Mahindra has created the XEV 9S’s greatest strength, its powertrain and battery options. The SUV comes with three batteryy packs —59kWh, 70kWh and 79kWh, and all variants get rear-wheel drive layout. Torque is 380Nm in all, but the 286hp output of top version makes it the most powerful in this comparison. The sheer performance of Harrier EV’s dual-motor AWD variant is definitely different, but XEV 9S leads in single-motor variants.
The 79kWh variant of the XEV 9S also in Range supersedes all its rivals with a claimed range of 679km. Kia Carens Clavis EV and BYD eMax 7 MPVs provide less range, while Harrier EV’s range is close, but not as much as XEV 9S. This SUV goes ahead even in the case of fast-charging. The 20 to 80% charge is completed in just 20 minutes.
Performance
If talked about 0-100 kph, the fastest variant of the XEV 9S completes this sprint in just 7 seconds. This figure is much faster than MPVs. Although the dual-motor AWD model of the Tata Harrier EV is even faster, it is a 2-row SUV and does not give a 3-row practicality like the XEV 9S. So Mahindra’s SUV in performance-to-practicality ratio looks forward.

Price
Mahindra has made very reasonable prices of XEV 9S ₹19.95 lakh to ₹29.45 lakh (ex-showroom). Because it has no direct rival, this price seems value-centric for buyers. The starting price of Kia Carens Clavis EV is slightly lower, and BYD eMax 7 is expensive.

At the same time, Tata Harrier EV prices overlap from the mid-to-top trims of XEV 9S. But the difference is that the Harrier EV is just a 2-row SUV, while the Mahindra XEV 9S is a complete 3-row family electric SUV, which greatly offers buyers in terms of practicality, size and comfort.
