Design Updates
The i5 LWB being prepared for India will not be just imported version, but it has been updated according to Indian roads. During the initial testing, problems of ground clearance were reported in the i5 M60, where low height caused speed breaker and scrapping problems on bad roads.

Following this feedback, BMW has reworked the chassis of India-spec i5 LWB. It has increased ground clearance and suspension setup has been tuned according to India’s road conditions. These changes not only increase comfort but make sedan even more practical for everday-use.
Electric Motor & Performance
The company can offer eDrive40L variant in India-spec BMW i5 LWB. It will be given a rear-mounted electric motor, which will give around 340 hp power and 430 Nm torque. So much power is enough to give a smooth, premium and confident driving experience.
The 97 kWh battery in this i5 gives a claimed range of about 713 km according to China’s CLTC cycle. In India this figure may be slightly lower, as the driving patterns and roads here are somewhat different. Nevertheless it would be quite impressive for range luxury EV buyers.
Price and Competition
BMW i5 LWB prices are expected to remain fairly competitive due to assembled in India. Its price is believed to be between about ₹90 lakhs to ₹1 crore (ex-showroom).

The i5 LWB direct collision at Luxury sedan segment is scheduled to be from Mercedes-Benz E-Class, which is currently quite strong in the market with its diesel trims. But the BMW i5 LWB can attract premium buyers who want to shift towards an eco-friendly, modern and feature-packed electric sedan.

Local Production in India
The BMW i5 LWB will be assembled in India at its Chennai plant, making it BMW’s first locally-produced electric sedan. This means better pricing, faster deliveries, and greater convenience in after-sales. The company is already locally-assembling the iX1 EV, so this move further advances BMW’s long-term electric roadmap.
