FASTag New Rule: If your vehicle travels on the highway and has a FASTag installed, this news is important for you. The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has made the KYC process easier for FASTag users. Under this new system, users are now given more time and easier options to complete the KYV (Know Your Vehicle) process. The new rules make FASTag verification faster, simpler, and more transparent.

Learn about the new FASTag rules

According to NHAI’s new guidelines, users will no longer need to upload a side photo of the vehicle for KYC. Only a clear photo of the front of the vehicle, clearly visible on both the number plate and FASTag, will suffice. Once the user enters their vehicle’s registration number, chassis number, or mobile number, the system will automatically retrieve the RC information from the VAHAN portal (VAHAN Database). This eliminates the need for physical details and completes the process automatically.

Multiple Vehicles Registered on a Single Mobile Number

If multiple vehicles are registered in a user’s name or under a single mobile number, the new system also allows for this. Users can select the vehicle of their choice and complete its KYC. Existing FASTag users are also relieved, as their tags will remain active until there are no complaints of misuse or malfunction. Banks will also periodically send reminders to users via SMS to complete their KYC.

Why the KYV Rule Was Implemented

NHAI implemented this rule to bring transparency to the FASTag system and prevent misuse. The authority had been receiving complaints that heavy vehicles, such as trucks and buses, were using FASTags issued for smaller vehicles to evade toll taxes. To address this issue, NHAI, in collaboration with NPCI (National Payments Corporation of India), initiated the KYV process. Its purpose is to ensure that the vehicle for which the FASTag was issued is using it.

How to Get Your FASTag KYC Done

Users must first take a front photo of their vehicle, clearly showing both the number plate and FASTag. Then, take a side photo of the vehicle, clearly showing the tires and body. Scan and upload the vehicle’s registration certificate. All these documents can be uploaded to the FASTag portal or your bank’s website. Login requires your registered mobile number and OTP. Go to the ‘My Profile’ section and complete the process under the ‘KYC’ tab. The bank will verify the uploaded details with the vehicle database. If the information is found to be incorrect, the KYC will be rejected.

When to Verify

NHAI has clarified that the KYV process must be repeated every three years to ensure vehicle information remains updated and the FASTag is not misused. This will make the system more secure and reliable. For any problems or questions, contact the National Highways Helpline number 1033.
