UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) has launched a powerful new feature called the “Aadhaar Data Vault” to make Aadhaar security impenetrable. This highly secure database will store your Aadhaar details in encrypted form, reducing the possibility of fraud to almost zero. Learn what the “Aadhaar Data Vault” is, how it works, and which organizations are required to implement it to ensure your digital data is always safe.

Aadhaar Data Vault

The Aadhaar card is the most important identity document in the country today, and its widespread use is increasing the need for secure data. The Aadhaar Data Vault is a separate and secure database for your Aadhaar data. It stores your Aadhaar number and associated personal information—such as name, date of birth, gender, address, photo, mobile number, and email ID—in encrypted form.

Strong Security Foundation

This vault is based on a Hardware Security Module (HSM), which ensures data privacy and security. This makes it extremely difficult for personal information to be leaked and maintains high security. Aadhaar-linked data refers to demographic details along with the Aadhaar number, which are stored most securely in this vault.

Requesting Entities are Mandatory to Implement

As per the Aadhaar Act, 2016 and its related rules, all entities called Requesting Entities (REs) that store the full Aadhaar number and any Aadhaar data associated with it must implement the Aadhaar Data Vault.

What are Requesting Entities (REs)

As per the Aadhaar Act, 2016, a Requesting Entity (RE) means an agency or individual that submits an individual’s Aadhaar number and demographic or biometric information to the Central Identities Data Repository (CIDR) for authentication. Simply put, all organizations that use Aadhaar authentication must implement this vault.

Main Purpose and Benefits of the Data Vault

The primary purpose of the Aadhaar Data Vault is to preserve the footprint of the Aadhaar number and its associated data. It ensures that the data is encrypted and stored securely in the requesting entity’s infrastructure to ensure data security and confidentiality. This is a major step forward in digital identity security, helping to prevent future data theft and misuse.

Now Update Aadhaar Card from Home

UIDAI has made Aadhaar card updates extremely convenient with the Aadhaar Data Vault. Tasks like address correction, details verification, and biometric updates can now be performed from the comfort of your home. Using new technology, the system will automatically retrieve addresses and other information from databases such as birth certificates, matriculation certificates, driving licenses, passports, PAN cards, PDS, and MNREGA.

This will not only simplify document verification but also help prevent the use of forged documents. According to UIDAI officials, preparations are underway to integrate the electricity bill database into the system soon, which will make this facility even more convenient.
