The JEE Main exam will be held in two sessions.
Like every year, the JEE Main exam will be conducted in two sessions: January and April 2026. Candidates who fail to score well in the January session will have a second chance in the April session. The session with the best score will be considered for final merit.
JEE Mains 2026 Syllabus
The JEE Main syllabus is based on the NCERT textbooks for Classes 11 and 12. This allows for simultaneous preparation for board exams and JEE. Over the past few years, the NTA has removed some chapters that are no longer part of the core curriculum. This has made the syllabus slightly lighter than before.
Mathematics – Algebra, Calculus, Trigonometry, Coordinate Geometry, 3D Geometry, and Vector Algebra.
Physics – Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Electromagnetism, Optics, and Modern Physics.
Chemistry – Key principles of Physical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, and Organic Chemistry, such as atomic structure, chemical bonding, and reaction mechanisms.
JEE Mains 2026 Exam Pattern
The JEE Main exam consists of three distinct papers.
- Paper 1: For B.E./B.Tech
- Paper 2A: For B.Arch
- Paper 2B: For B.Planning
Here we will focus on Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech), which is taken by the most students.
Mode: Computer-Based Test (CBT)
Total Questions: 75 (25 questions from each subject)
Total Marks: 300
Subjects: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry

Each subject has two sections.
- Section A: 20 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) – all compulsory
- Section B: 5 Numerical Value Questions (NVQs) – all compulsory (Section B previously offered options, but in 2026, all questions will be compulsory)
