JEE Mains 2026 Registration Open. The process for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Mains 2026), conducted for admission to engineering colleges, has begun. This year, the National Testing Agency (NTA), which conducts the exam, has made several updates that applicants should be aware of. This will ensure a hassle-free and convenient application process.

It should be noted that many such exams across the country are conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). The NTA has made several significant changes to facilitate students and make the examination system more transparent. These changes aim to increase transparency in the examination process, prevent fraud, and allow students to take the exam in their own city.

Exam centres are available near their homes.

The NTA has completely changed the process for selecting exam centres. Candidates will now have the option to choose up to four exam cities based on their permanent and current addresses. The agency states that, as far as possible, candidates will be allocated an exam centre in one of the selected cities.

Previously, students were shown options for cities across multiple states, which often led to mistakenly selecting distant cities. For student convenience, the number of exam cities has been increased to 323, compared to 299 last time.

Live Photographs Will Now Be Required

This time, when filling out the form, students will be required to upload not only a passport-sized photo but also a live photograph. According to the NTA, uploading old photos sometimes created identification problems. The new system will ensure that the applicant and the candidate appearing for the exam are the same person.

In addition to uploading a live photo, a scanned copy of a recent colour photo (JPG or JPEG format) will also be required.

If the two photos do not match, the system will immediately alert them. Therefore, students should upload a recent photo that clearly shows the face and covers 80 per cent of the body.

E-KYC verifications are now mandatory

The e-KYC system has also been implemented in JEE Mains 2026. This system digitally verifies a candidate’s identity.

Information such as name, date of birth, and photo will be verified through UIDAI’s Aadhaar authentication system.

Students must ensure that there is no discrepancy between the name or date of birth on their Aadhaar card and their 10th-grade marksheet; otherwise, their application may be rejected.

Exam Dates and Application Process

Applications for the first stage can be made until November 27, 2025. The exam will be held between January 21 and 30, 2026, and the results will be declared by February 12, 2026. Students who wish to appear for the second stage can apply from the last week of January.

The second stage will be held between April 1 and 10, 2026, and the final results will be declared on April 20, 2026.

Exam Pattern and Special Facilities for Students with Disabilities

The exam for BE/BTech courses will be for a total of 300 marks, consisting of 75 questions from Physics, Chemistry, and Math. Each subject will have 20 MCQs and 5 numerical questions. A correct answer will carry 4 marks, while an incorrect answer will carry a negative marking of 1 mark.

This time, more facilities have been provided for candidates with disabilities – including increased zoom levels on the exam screen, ramps, and assistive devices.
