According to Vastu principles, all Tulsi plants are considered auspicious and sacred. Both Rama and Shyama Tulsi are very auspicious, and either can be planted in the home. Any Tulsi plant with green leaves is considered Rama. However, any Tulsi plant with black or purple leaves is called Shyama.

Both Shyama and Rama Tulsi are considered significant in their own right. Regarding Rama, it is said that negative energy can never enter any home where this Tulsi is present.

According to beliefs, Shyama Tulsi is very dear to Lord Krishna because of her colour. Having this Tulsi plant in the home brings peace and is also believed to have many medicinal properties. Shyama Tulsi is very effective in treating many ailments, making it highly regarded.

Keep these things in mind when planting Tulsi:

  1. Although Tulsi can be planted at any time, planting it at the right time provides numerous benefits. It is believed that planting Tulsi on Thursday is considered very auspicious.
  2. One should try to bring the Tulsi plant home only during the month of Kartik.
  3. It should be noted that the Tulsi plant should never be placed on the roof. It is best to put it in the courtyard or on the balcony.
  4. Don’t allow dirt to accumulate around the Tulsi plant. Please keep it clean regularly. Thorny plants should also never be placed nearby.
  5. Regarding direction, the Tulsi plant should always be placed in the northeast direction. It should never be placed facing south, even by mistake.
