What is the CLAT exam?
CLAT, or Common Law Admission Test, is a national-level entrance exam that provides admission to the country’s leading National Law Universities (NLUs). This exam is conducted for law programs at both undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) levels.

According to CNLU, every year, lakhs of students from across the country appear for this exam to gain admission to courses like LLB and LLM at NLUs or other prestigious law colleges.
Eligibility Criteria for CLAT 2026
For CLAT UG (a five-year integrated law course), candidates must have secured at least 45 per cent marks (4 per cent for SC/ST candidates) in their 10+2 examination or equivalent. There is no upper age limit for appearing in this exam.
For CLAT PG (a one-year LLM course), candidates must have an LLB degree or equivalent qualification from a recognised university. The minimum marks for general category candidates are 50 per cent, while for SC/ST candidates, the minimum marks are 45 per cent.
How to Apply for CLAT 2026?
Candidates who wish to apply for the CLAT 2026 exam can follow the simple steps below:

- Click on the “CLAT 2026 Registration” link on the home page.
- Enter the required information for registration, such as email ID, mobile number, etc. Log in and carefully fill out the application form.
- Upload all required documents and pay the application fee.
- After submitting the form, take a printout for future reference.

When will the CLAT exam be held?
According to the schedule released by the Consortium, the CLAT 2026 exam will be held in December 2025. The exam will be conducted in offline mode and will consist of a total of 120 questions. The question paper will include sections such as English, Legal Reasoning, Current Affairs, Logical Reasoning, and Math.
