Stock Market Holiday: Like other establishments in the country, stock markets will also be closed on the occasion of Diwali. Trading will not be possible on both the BSE and NSE exchanges. The holidays are October 21st and 22nd. October 21st is Diwali/Lakshmi Pujan, while October 22nd is Diwali Balipratipada. However, on Diwali day, i.e. October 21st, the stock market will be open for a short time for Muhurat trading.

On 21st and 22nd October, there is a trading holiday for all the segments in BSE including Equity Segment, Equity Derivatives Segment, SLB Segment, Currency Derivatives Segments, NDS-RST, Tri Party Repo, Commodity Derivatives Segment, Electronic Gold Receipts (EGR) Segment. On both these dates, there will be holiday in all the segments in NSE including Equities, Equity Derivatives, Commodities Derivatives, Corporate Bonds, New Debt Segments, Negotiated Trade Reporting Platform, Mutual Funds, Security Lending and Borrowing Schemes, Currency Derivatives and Interest Rate Derivatives. Multi Commodity Exchange will also have a holiday on 21st and 22nd October on the occasion of Diwali.

Muhurat Trading Timings

On October 21, 2025, a one-hour Muhurat trading session will be held on the NSE and BSE, from 1:45 PM to 2:45 PM. Additionally, there will be a pre-open session from 1:30 PM to 1:45 PM, allowing traders to prepare for trading. This Muhurat trading session is considered an auspicious occasion for investors. The tradition of Muhurat trading has been going on for many years. Investors view it as an opportunity to bring prosperity and success to their portfolios.

In the past 16 years, both the Sensex and Nifty have closed higher in this special session 13 times. In the Muhurat trading session of Diwali 2024, the Sensex gained 335.06 points to close at 79,724.12, and the Nifty gained 99 points to close at 24,304.35.

After Diwali, for the rest of the year 2025, apart from Saturdays and Sundays, the stock markets will be closed on Guru Nanak Jayanti on November 5 and Christmas on December 25. On Friday, October 10, the stock markets closed with gains for the second consecutive day. The Sensex rose 328.72 points or 0.40 percent to close at 82,500.82. The Nifty rose 103.55 points or 0.41 percent to close at 25,285.35.
