Updating your name, address, photo, or other information on your Aadhaar card has become more expensive. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has made a major revision to the fees associated with Aadhaar updates. Under the new rules, which came into effect on October 1, 2025, any changes to your Aadhaar card will now incur an additional fee of ₹15 to ₹25.

This rule will remain in effect until September 30, 2028. Following this, UIDAI has also set new rates for the next phase, from October 1, 2028, to September 30, 2031. However, there will be no charge for making a new Aadhaar card, and it will remain free as before.

Which services have become more expensive

UIDAI has increased the fees for various services provided at Aadhaar Seva Kendras.

Demographic Update: Updating information such as name, address, mobile number, and date of birth, which previously cost ₹50, will now cost ₹75.

Biometric Update: Updating fingerprints, iris, or photos, which previously cost ₹100, will now cost ₹125.

Online Update: Updating your address or other documents online (on the MyAadhaar portal) will remain free until June 14, 2026. However, doing the same at a center will now cost ₹75.

Color Printout: You will now also have to pay to obtain a color copy of your Aadhaar or eKYC. The fee has been fixed at ₹40 (for 2025-2028).

Major Relief for Children and Adolescents

UIDAI has provided significant relief to children and adolescents regarding biometric updates. One-time biometric updates will be completely free for children/adolescents aged five to seven and 15 to 17 years. This initiative is designed to encourage timely updates. Furthermore, the biometric update fee for children aged seven to 15 years has been waived until September 30, 2026. However, if a person wishes to update their biometric information at any other age, they will have to pay the prescribed fee.

Higher Fees for Home Services

UIDAI has also fixed the fees for home Aadhaar services. If a person wishes to update their Aadhaar at home, they will have to pay ₹700 (including GST). If additional members of the same household wish to avail this service, a fee of ₹350 will be charged for each additional person. This fee will be separate from the normal fee for demographic and biometric updates.

Next Phase Rates

UIDAI has also fixed rates for the next phase, from October 1, 2028, to September 30, 2031. During this period, the service for creating new Aadhaar cards will be free. Biometric updates (for children) will cost ₹150, while demographic updates will cost ₹90. Search and printout services will cost ₹50. The primary purpose of these fee increases is to maintain the quality of services and support modernization.
