Health is very important, especially as people grow older. Access to good healthcare is crucial for their well-being. The Ayushman Vaya Vandan scheme is running in India to help senior citizens.
Besides this scheme, the government has started several other schemes for senior citizens. These schemes provide free or low-cost treatment, including hospitalization, medicines, and coverage for serious illnesses. In addition to Ayushman Vaya Vandan, senior citizens in India can get free treatment and hospitalization coverage under three other government schemes.
National Senior Citizen Mediclaim Policy (SCHIS)
The National Senior Citizen Mediclaim Policy provides medical coverage up to ₹10 lakh for senior citizens. It is available for people aged 60-80 years. The plan can also cover a spouse or partner under a family floater plan.
The policy lasts for one year but can be renewed up to 90 years. It includes coverage for organ transplantation, hospitalization up to ₹1 lakh, and critical illness coverage up to ₹2 lakh.
Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS)
The CGHS is a health insurance scheme for central and former central government employees. Eligible people include railway employees, judges, Delhi Police staff, MPs, and freedom fighters.
This scheme covers hospital expenses, AYUSH treatment, home treatment, and consultation fees. It helps senior citizens get timely treatment and reduces their financial burden.
Documents Required
To get benefits from these schemes, senior citizens must have Aadhaar card, age proof, and pension card ready. With these documents, the elderly can easily access hospital treatment and enjoy free services.
