Ayushman Card: Delhi residents can finally breathe a sigh of relief as the Ayushman Bharat Yojana is set to launch tomorrow, Saturday. The Delhi government has been gearing up for this rollout. Initially, they plan to issue Ayushman cards to one lakh individuals. Following this, the government aims to quickly expand the program to include all eligible residents.

At least one lakh Ayushman cards ready by April 10

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) will be signed between the Central and Delhi governments for the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana. The goal is to have at least one lakh Ayushman cards ready by April 10. The BJP had promised during the assembly elections that this scheme would be implemented once they were in power. Under the Ayushman Yojana, Delhi residents will receive medical coverage of up to Rs 10 lakh, which includes Rs 5 lakh from the central government and an additional Rs 5 lakh from the state. This initiative aims to provide better healthcare for the underprivileged.

Who will get first

Initially, the focus will be on issuing cards to those with Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) cards, followed by holders of Below Poverty Line (BPL) cards. It’s expected that the first beneficiaries will be one lakh Antyodaya cardholders. The Delhi government has allocated a budget of Rs 2,144 crore to implement the Ayushman scheme. While other states offer a medical cover of up to Rs 5 lakh with an Ayushman card, Delhi’s coverage is set at Rs 10 lakh, with the state covering Rs 7 lakh of that amount.

There are two types of ration cards in Delhi

Currently, there are two types of ration cards in Delhi: Priority Category or BPL cards for those below the poverty line, and Antyodaya Anna Cards (AAY), which are designated for the most impoverished families, providing them with 35 kg of ration each month.
