Bihar Election 2025 Update: Preparations for the Bihar Assembly elections are in full swing, with all political parties working tirelessly. After a long gap, the Congress Working Committee is meeting today in Patna, the capital of Bihar. This meeting is being interpreted in many ways. One question is whether Congress is planning to contest the elections on its own in Bihar.
However, political experts are dismissing such speculation. The Congress is buoyed by the public support received during the Voter Rights Yatra. On the other hand, unlike the NDA, the seat-sharing issue within the Grand Alliance remains unresolved. Meetings have been held, but no results have been reached.
How Many Seats Does Congress Want?
The seat-sharing agreement within the Grand Alliance for the Bihar Assembly elections has not yet been finalised. The Congress is also attacking the NDA government with allegations of vote theft. The Congress’s confidence in the Bihar elections has significantly increased this time. This is why the party’s working committee meeting is being held in Patna.
Congress is demanding more seats this time, which RJD and other parties are not prepared to accept. This demand for more seats is currently a thorn in the sidelines. Former Deputy Chief Minister and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav was also present at the coordination committee meeting, but no firm conclusion was reached.
How many seats is RJD willing to give to Congress?
In Bihar, Congress wants to contest 70 to 75 seats, as in 2020, but RJD is not agreeing to this. The remaining parties in the Grand Alliance are considering giving Congress 50 to 55 seats. RJD is considering contesting 135 to 140 seats, with Mukesh Sahni and the CPI also being considered for a respectable number of seats. Congress’s demand has created a deadlock over seating within the Grand Alliance.
Consensus not reached within the NDA either.
For your information, not only the Grand Alliance but also the NDA has not yet reached a consensus on seat sharing. NDA constituents have already met with Home Minister Amit Shah, but seat-sharing has not yet been announced. The Election Commission is considering announcing the dates in the second week of October. This means that elections are expected to be held in November.
