The central government has extended the loan period of the Pradhan Mantri Street Vendors Atmanirbhar Nidhi Yojana (PM SVANidhi Yojana) till 2030. The total budget of this restructured scheme has been fixed at ₹ 7,332 crore, which will benefit more than 1.15 crore street vendors, out of which 50 lakh will be new beneficiaries. The scheme will be implemented jointly by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and the Department of Financial Services (DFS), in which banks and financial institutions will play an important role.

These major reforms in the scheme

This scheme is not just financial help, but has become a means to empower street vendors, grow their business, and connect them to the digital world. Some of the unprecedented changes in the scheme are as follows.

PM SVANidhi Yojana

More loans and e-Rupay credit cards will be available

The loan amount has been increased under the scheme so that street vendors can grow their business even more strongly. The loan amount for the first installment has been increased from ₹10,000 to ₹15,000. Similarly, the loan amount for the second installment has been increased from ₹20,000 to ₹25,000. The amount for the third installment remains unchanged at ₹50,000. Apart from this, the beneficiaries who will get the second installment loan will also be given the facility of a UPI-linked RuPay credit card, which will enable them to get instant credit assistance.

A reward will be given for digital payment

The government wants to promote digital transactions, so a cashback of up to ₹1,600 will be given on retail and wholesale digital transactions. This move will encourage street vendors to transact digitally and make their financial system more transparent.

The scope of the scheme increased

Now the benefits of this scheme will not be limited to urban areas only. It will also be gradually expanded to census towns, semi-urban, and rural areas. This will also give street vendors living in every corner of the country a chance to become self-reliant.

Skill development of street vendors

PM Swanidhi Yojana is not limited to financial assistance only. Under this, vendors will also be given training in entrepreneurship, digital literacy, financial management, and marketing. With the help of FSSAI, vendors selling food items will also get training on hygiene and food safety. Through the monthly ‘Lok Kalyan Mela’, the benefits of government schemes will be extended to the vendors and their families, ensuring their all-around socio-economic development.
