Land Rover is introducing a compact version of the SUV. This little warrior will retain the same robust and boxy design as its bigger siblings but will be loaded with modern technology, making it perfect for both city roads and wild terrain.

Design and Platforms

little Defender will be built on Land Rover’s new Modular EMA (Electric Modular Architecture) platform that has been designed specifically for electric vehicles. Early spy images reveal that it will have a boxy silhouette and upright profile similar to the current Defender, along with signature LED lighting elements.

It will measure around 4.6 metres in length, 2 metres in width and less than 1.8 metres in height, making it smaller than the current Defender but still having a dominant presence on the road.

Performance and Technology

The beauty of the EMA platform is that it supports dual electric motor setup, giving the vehicle all-wheel drive capability. Additionally, it will also feature 800V electrical architecture that will enable super-fast charging speeds of up to 350 kW.

Baby Defender will be positioned as the entry point in the Defender family. With this, Land Rover wants to expand its reach in the luxury EV space. When it hits the market in 2027, it will compete directly with Mercedes-Benz’s upcoming Little G electric SUV, which is also scheduled to be launched in 2027. Both models will emerge as premium options in the compact electric off-roader category.
