DA Arrear- Major update for central govt employees. During the Corona epidemic, the central government had stopped three installments of dearness allowance (DA) and dearness relief (DR) given to employees and pensioners. These installments were of January 2020, July 2020 and January 2021.

In total, there was a arrear of 18 months, which was stopped to reduce the economic pressure due to Kovid. On August 11, MP Anand Bhadoria asked in the Lok Sabha whether the government is planning to pay these arrears now? He reminded that this decision was taken in view of the economic disruption and government financial pressure during Covid-19.

The government gave this answer

The Finance Ministry replied that during the pandemic, the government launched several welfare schemes, the financial impact of which continued even after 2020-21. In such a situation, payment of DA/DR arrears for 18 months is “not possible”.

What are DA and DR?

DA i.e. dearness allowance is given by the central government to its employees to balance the effect of inflation. Similarly, pensioners are also given DR i.e. dearness relief. Usually it is increased twice a year, but it was stopped during the time of Covid. After this statement of the government, lakhs of central employees and pensioners are disappointed because they were waiting for this dues for a long time. Now it is clear that there is no possibility of this at the moment.
