Transport Allowance- Good news for some government employees. The central government has recently taken an important decision for disabled employees. Now central government employees falling under certain categories of disability will get double the transport allowance at the normal rate. The Finance Ministry has asked all ministries and departments to strictly follow this instruction.
In a recent memorandum issued by the Ministry of Finance, it has been clarified that a new list of disability categories has been issued, amending the earlier instructions issued on September 15, 2022, under which double transport allowance will be given to the employees.
Which disabled employees will get double allowance?
According to the new order, employees falling in the following categories under the Disability Rights Act 2016 will be entitled to this facility, provided other conditions are fulfilled:
Locomotor Disability
Locomotor disability includes leprosy cured people, cerebral palsy, dwarfism, muscular dystrophy and acid attack victims. It also includes spinal cord and injuries. Apart from this, blindness and low vision, deafness and speech and language disorders are also a part of it.
Not only this, it includes intellectual disability which includes specific learning disorder and autism spectrum disorder. At the same time, people suffering from mental illness, chronic neurological conditions like multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease are also eligible for it. Also, employees with blood related disability, hemophilia, thalassemia, sickle cell disease are also eligible for it.
Why is this facility necessary?
Divyang employees have to face many additional difficulties in everyday life. In such a situation, traveling, especially in working life, is a big challenge for them. Doubling the transport allowance by the government is a big relief for these employees, which will not only help them financially but will also promote social inclusion. It is worth noting that under the Seventh Pay Commission, many types of allowances are given to the Central Government employees. Among these, Dearness Allowance (DA) is the most important, which is revised every six months in view of inflation.
Apart from this, employees also get House Rent Allowance (HRA). It varies according to the category of the city. Not only this, the government also gives transport allowance, children’s education allowance, hostel subsidy to its employees.
