8th Pay Commission: There is a big update for crores of central government employees. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced the formation of the 8th Pay Commission in January 2025, which has now been confirmed by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in Parliament. This move will benefit about 36 lakh central government employees and pensioners across the country.

Speaking in the Rajya Sabha, the Finance Minister also clarified that there is no discrimination between pensioners before and after 1 January 2016. Everyone is getting equal pension under the ‘parity framework’ of the 7th Pay Commission. Along with this, he also told that the recently implemented ‘validation rules’ do not apply to defense pensioners and these are not any amendments in the existing pension rules.

Under the 8th Pay Commission, salary and pension will be increased on the basis of the fitment factor. This is a multiplier through which the new basic pay is decided. According to experts, the new fitment factor can be between 2.6 to 2.85, due to which an increase of 25% to 30% in salary is possible.

Basic salary will be more than 40 thousand

According to Neeti Sharma, CEO of TeamLease Digital, under the new system, the minimum basic salary of government employees can be more than Rs 40,000. Along with this, they will also get better allowances and facilities, which will further strengthen their financial condition.

Although the government has approved the formation of the commission, the finance minister said that the deadline for submitting the report will be decided later. At present, employees and pensioners are waiting for the formal formation and recommendations of the commission, which may bring about a major change in their income.
