Yamaha R2 Launch in India: The craze for sports bikes is growing in India. Keeping this in mind, Yamaha has launched its new R2 in the country. The motorcycle starts at ₹2.30 lakh (ex-showroom), with the top variant priced at ₹2.53 lakh. The Yamaha R2 is offered in three variants and five colour options. It comes equipped with a new 204cc engine, a TFT console, riding modes, and traction control. Deliveries are scheduled to begin around September 2026. Let’s take a look at the full details.
New 204cc Engine
Starting with the engine, Yamaha has equipped the R2 with a new 204cc unit. This liquid-cooled, DOHC, single-cylinder petrol engine generates a maximum power of 26.1 bhp and a peak torque of 19.1 Nm. The engine is mated to a six-speed gearbox and comes with a standard slip-and-assist clutch.

Diamond Frame
Yamaha has also paid special attention to the R2’s chassis. The motorcycle is built on a diamond frame, featuring USD forks at the front and a monoshock suspension at the rear. It rides on 17-inch alloy wheels and has disc brakes on both wheels. It also features preload-adjustable front suspension, along with adjustable clutch and brake levers.
TFT Console and Riding Modes
It features a TFT instrument console that includes smartphone connectivity. This feature enhances the riding experience by providing navigation and connected information. The bike offers three riding modes: Street, Sport, and Rain. Switching modes based on riding conditions lets the rider adjust performance accordingly.

Variants
Yamaha has introduced the R2 in three versions. The base R2 model starts at ₹2.30 lakh. This is followed by the version equipped with a quickshifter, while the R2 M variant sits at the top of the lineup. Features vary by variant; for example, the quickshifter and smart key are available on the higher-end variants.
Competition
With a starting price of ₹2.30 lakh, it will compete in the Indian market against motorcycles such as the KTM RC 200 and Hero Karizma XMR 210. The KTM RC 200 is known for its aggressive design and performance-oriented character, whereas the Karizma XMR is a more practical sports tourer.
