New Volkswagen SUV:-  Volkswagen is now preparing to step into a new segment to make its place in the Indian SUV market. The company’s upcoming compact SUV could particularly appeal to those who want a car with a stylish design, a powerful petrol engine and a better driving experience. It will be the brand’s new offering in the sub-4-metre segment after the Polo was discontinued in India in 2022. It is expected that the platform and engine of the new Volkswagen SUV will be similar to the Skoda Kilaq, but its design and cabin may come with a different identity. So, let’s take a closer look at these options.

Design

The biggest highlight of the upcoming Volkswagen SUV could be its exterior design. Even though it shares its platform with the Skoda Kilaq, the company could tweak the front and rear design to give it a different look. At the front, there’s a new grille, a new front bumper, and new headlamps.

Talking about the side profile, it is expected to get 17-inch alloy wheels. Large alloy wheels can make the car’s presence on the road more powerful. The rear also gets a different taillamp and a new bumper to differentiate it from the Skoda Kilaq.

Interior

The cabin of the new Volkswagen SUV could also be different from the Skoda Kilaq. The company could introduce changes to the design of the dashboard, centre console, door panels and seats. The interior is expected to provide a different experience while sitting inside the car. Volkswagen could focus on giving its model a sporty identity, which is why the cabin features a dark colour theme and different styling elements.

1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine

Volkswagen’s compact new SUV is expected to get a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine. The engine is expected to produce 114 bhp and 178 Nm of torque. If the company introduces this engine, it will be better for those who need good performance on the highway and in the city. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic gearbox.

The sub-4-metre SUV segment in India is already quite good. The new Hyundai Venue will rival the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon, Ford EcoSport and the upcoming Kia Sonet. All these models have unique features, so Volkswagen will need more than a new design. Volkswagen has confirmed the launch of a new compact SUV for India, but it has yet to reveal the name, launch date and price.
