The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has made it mandatory for account holders to appoint a nominee. For the convenience of the members,EPFO has launched an e-nomination program to simplify the process of adding a nominee. Now it has become necessary for PF account holders in EPFO to choose a nominee. If the name of the nominee (EPFO account nominee) is not registered in your EPF account,then you will not be able to use all the facilities of EPFO.
Importance of Nominee
EPFO has taken an important step to ensure the safety of account holders and their families by making it mandatory to add a nominee. This step ensures that in the event of the death of the account holder,his family can easily get the amount deposited in the PF account.
E-Nomination Process
EPFO has made the e-nomination process simple and secure,allowing account holders to add a nominee from the comfort of their homes.

How to add a nominee
Log in to UAN EPFO website: First,log in to UAN EPFO website.
Select ‘Manage’ and ‘e-Nomination’: Select ‘Manage’ and ‘e-Nomination’ from the menu.
Select ‘Yes’ in Family Declaration: Select ‘Yes’ in Family Declaration.
Fill in the ‘Add Family Details’ section: Complete the ‘Add Family Details’ section with your application information.
Fill in the details: Fill in your address,and bank details,including the bank’s IFSC code and nominee account number,your Aadhaar number,date of birth,gender,relationship between you and the user,and your relationship with them.
Click on ‘Add Family Details’: Click on ‘Add Family Details’. You can now also add more than one nominee.
Click on ‘e-Sign’ to generate OTP: Click on ‘e-Sign’ to generate OTP.
Fill OTP and submit: OTP will be sent to the mobile number linked with Aadhaar. Fill OTP and submit. In this way,the nominee will be added to your EPFO account.
Disadvantages of not adding a nominee
If a person does not add a nominee,he may face many disadvantages. Without a nominee,you will not be able to view the passbook. Also,you cannot withdraw money for any emergency except a medical emergency.
