What are the new rules
Under the new rules,people born on or after October 1,2023,will have to provide their birth certificate while applying for a passport. Let us tell you that this certificate should be issued only by the Municipal Corporation or any other authority designated under the Registration of Births and Deaths Act,1969.

Who will not have to give a birth certificate
People born before October 1,2023 can still apply for a passport on the basis of other documents like driving license,school leaving certificate,voter ID,PAN card. However,PAN card,driving license,Aadhaar card or e-Aadhaar,EPIC and pension order will be accepted as proof of birth only if the date of birth is correctly recorded in them.
Documents required for address proof
If you want to get a passport for yourself or a member of your family,then you may need the following documents.
- Water,electricity,landline,or post-paid mobile bill
- Voter card
- Proof of gas connection
- Copy of spouse’s passport
- Copy of parents’ passport in case of minors
- Bank passbook
- Aadhaar card
Know which passport is right for you
It is mainly of three types:
Regular Passport: It is issued to common citizens and is valid for 10 years.
Official Passport: It is provided to government officials for their foreign trips.
Diplomatic Passport: It is given to high government officials and diplomats.
