UP Ration Card News: If you are a ration card holder in Uttar Pradesh, this news could be very significant for you. Plans are underway to provide healthcare benefits, alongside free rations, to crores of families in Uttar Pradesh. The Uttar Pradesh government has approved a proposal to include ‘Antyodaya’ (white) ration card holders and all ‘Eligible Household’ (Patra Grihasthi) ration card holders under the Ayushman Bharat PM Jan Arogya Yojana.
Once the Uttar Pradesh government implements this proposal, eligible individuals could receive free medical treatment coverage of up to ₹5 lakh annually. This is expected to bring major relief to families who often struggle to cover medical expenses during times of illness. This announcement by the UP government is set to be highly beneficial for the public.
Which ration card holders will benefit?
Following this proposal by the Uttar Pradesh government, various categories of ration card holders will benefit. This includes ‘Antyodaya’ ration card holders—cards issued to the poorest families—as well as ‘Eligible Household’ (Patra Grihasthi) ration card holders, who are covered under the National Food Security Act. The proposal aims to include eligible individuals from both categories under the Ayushman Bharat scheme.
Free medical treatment of up to ₹5 lakh annually
Under the Ayushman Bharat scheme, eligible beneficiaries are provided with cashless medical treatment coverage of up to ₹5 lakh per year. This means that those covered by the scheme can receive medical treatment at listed government and private hospitals without having to pay any expenses out of their pockets.

14.61 crore people to benefit
According to reports, there are approximately 3.63 crore eligible ration cards in Uttar Pradesh, covering about 14.61 crore individuals. If this government proposal is implemented, it will pave the way for these individuals to be included under the health security scheme.
What about those employed in government jobs? It should be noted that individuals employed in government jobs, or those already benefiting from other government health schemes, may be excluded from this new system. However, the final rules and eligibility criteria in this regard are not yet clear; further details will emerge once the government issues official guidelines.
When will this facility begin?
A proposal to include ration cardholders under the Ayushman scheme has been approved. The official date for implementing this scheme and the process for obtaining the necessary card have not yet been announced. Consequently, ration cardholders are advised to await further government directives and official announcements.
