Q Mitra App: Big news for railway passengers. Relief from the lengthy queues at railway station ticket counters and the disorder during Tatkal ticket bookings is on the horizon. To enhance transparency, security, and convenience for passengers, the Railways is testing the “Q Mitra” app. If the trial proves successful, this system will be introduced at reservation and Tatkal ticket counters, eliminating the need for passengers to endure long waits in queues.
Q Mitra App Update
In the new system, passengers can secure a digital token for ticket booking via their mobile phones from any location. This token will be provided as a QR code. Passengers can then simply visit the booking counter at the appointed time to collect their tickets. This approach will reduce congestion at the counters and streamline the ticketing process.

Previously, Railways had introduced Aadhaar-based OTP verification for online and Tatkal ticket reservations, significantly reducing fraudulent ticket bookings. Despite this, some middlemen still manage to acquire instant tickets through station counters using forged identification, causing inconvenience to genuine passengers. The Queue Mitra system is envisioned as a remedy to this issue.
Reports suggest that advanced technologies like Aadhaar number verification, mobile number registration, and facial recognition may also be incorporated into the Q Mitra app. This will effectively combat ticket rebooking and black market activities. Passengers will receive a designated time slot through a token, eliminating the need to queue up or struggle at the station overnight.

Railway officials are optimistic that this digital token system will enhance transparency in ticket distribution, minimize the involvement of middlemen, and ensure prompt ticket availability for passengers. This system could be especially beneficial in managing the disorder often associated with Tatkal ticket reservations.
Commercial Booking Incharge Rudauli Dilaram emphasized that this initiative by Railways is a significant move towards promoting digital services and improving the ticketing system’s transparency and passenger-centric approach.
Additionally, Senior DCM Ayodhya Samarth Gupta highlighted that the Q Mitra app aims to alleviate passengers’ challenges at ticket counters. It is currently in the trial phase, and if successful, it will be expanded based on feedback and experiences.
