UGC NET Notification 2026: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has released the notification for the UGC NET 2026 (December session). Candidates wishing to appear for this exam can register online by visiting the official NTA website, ugcnet.nta.nic.in. Along with the application details, the exam dates have also been announced. The application process for the UGC NET exam began on October 8, and interested, eligible candidates can submit their forms until October 28.

According to the public notice, the UGC NET exam will be held from December 14 to December 19, 2026. The papers will be conducted across various shifts over a total of six days; there is a lead time of more than two months from now. The exam will cover 87 subjects, including Commerce, Dogri, Criminology, Education, and English.

NTA UGC NET December Notification 2026 

Eligibility for UGC NET
The UGC NET is conducted for the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), Assistant Professor positions, and admission to PhD programmes. This exam takes place twice a year—in June and December—attracting a large number of candidates. To apply, candidates must hold a master’s degree in the relevant subject with at least 55% marks. Candidates appearing for their final-year master’s exams are also eligible to apply. Additionally, those holding a four-year bachelor’s degree are considered eligible.

Application Fee
Candidates are required to pay an application fee when applying for the UGC NET. General/Unreserved candidates must submit an application fee of ₹1,150. The fee is set at ₹600 for General-EWS and OBC-Non-Creamy Layer candidates. Meanwhile, candidates belonging to the SC, ST, PwBD, and Third Gender categories are required to pay an application fee of ₹325. The notification also advises candidates to provide an email ID and mobile number that are currently accessible to them when applying. When will the exam be held?
The NTA UGC NET 2026 examination will be conducted between December 14 and December 19, 2026. Admit cards will be released a few days prior to the exam, and candidates will be able to download them from the official NTA website.
