New rules of MotoGP: MotoGP has announced new rules for the premier motorcycle racing championship that will come into effect from the 2027 season. Major changes have been made to the technical regulations which will have a significant impact on motorsport events.

Engines became less efficient

The engine of the race-spec MotoGP bike will be reduced from 1000cc to 850cc. This will be disappointing for many as ideally reducing engine capacity would produce less power and torque. Due to which the top speed of the bike will reduce. This will make the game safer and mileage will also increase. In this way motorcycles will be made more efficient and durable.

Additionally, the maximum bore will be reduced from 81 to 75 millimeters, which will also limit performance. This will make the engines more road-relevant and will also ensure that they retain MotoGP characteristics. To make the sport more efficient, each rider will now be able to use a maximum of 6 engines in a season, up from 7 previously.

How will the fuel be?

As previously reported, MotoGP races will use 100 percent sustainable fuel from 2027. This will increase from the minimum of 40 percent, which was introduced in 2024. Under the new rules, the fuel tank capacity will also be reduced from 22 liters to 20 litres. , And riders will be allowed to use 11 liters of fuel during sprint races.

Aerodynamics

To counter the performance degradation caused by the engines, aerodynamics will be enhanced to reduce their negative effects. From 2027, the maximum permitted width of the high part of the front fairing aero body will be reduced from 600 mm to 550 mm.

Additionally, the rear end height will be reduced from 1250 mm to 1150 mm. The forwardmost point of the front fairing (nose) will be moved back by 50 mm, and the rear taper of the front fairing aero appendage will also become narrower. Furthermore, the rear end of the machine – any aerodynamics behind the rider – must be symmetrical as part of the aero body. To control costs, teams will be allowed only one update throughout the season.
