Yamaha’s flagship maxi-scooter, the TMAX560, has received a refresh for the 2024 model year. While officially launched in international markets, rumours swirl about a possible India debut, stirring excitement amongst scooter enthusiasts.
Globally Launched with a Refresh:
Yamaha unveiled the revamped TMAX560 on February 29th, 2024, in Japan. Offered in two variants – the standard TMAX560 and the feature-packed TMAX560 Tech Max – both share the same powerful engine and platform. Prices start at RM 75,000 (approximately Rs. 13 lakh, ex-showroom) in Malaysia and JPY 1,408,000 (around Rs. 7.75 lakh) in Japan.
Sporting a Sleek New Look:
The 2024 TMAX560 retains its signature design, but with a fresh coat of paint. The standard variant in Japan flaunts a Matte Black body with eye-catching Racing Blue wheels, while the Tech Max boasts Matte Dark Reddish Grey or Matte Dark Grey options. In Malaysia, the TMAX560 comes dressed in Dark Magma and Tech Black shades.
Powerhouse on Two Wheels:
The TMAX560 exudes power and presence. Its features include a bold, aggressive front end, comprehensive LED lighting, golden-finished USD telescopic front forks, a mono-shock rear suspension, a tall, transparent windscreen, comfortable ergonomics, plush seats for rider and pillion, dual disc brakes at the front, a single disc brake at the rear, dual-channel ABS, and more.
Packed with Tech and Comfort:
The TMAX560 isn’t just about brawn; it boasts brains too. A 7-inch TFT instrument display, Garmin navigation, an electrically adjustable windscreen, heated seats and grips, cruise control, and various other amenities elevate the riding experience. The scooter also offers a spacious under-seat storage compartment, a 15L fuel tank, and weighs in at 220 kg.
Thumping Heart and Smooth Transmission:
At the heart of the TMAX560 lies a powerful 560cc DOHC 4-valve parallel-twin cylinder engine, churning out 47.6 bhp and 55.7 Nm of torque. This potent engine is paired with a smooth CVT transmission and belt-drive system.
India Launch: A Possibility?
The sighting of a Yamaha TMAX560 test mule with temporary Karnataka state registration plates in India has sparked excitement amongst scooter enthusiasts. This development hints at a possible India launch, which would be significant considering the current landscape of premium scooters in the country.
Filling the Gap in the Market:
Currently, the Indian premium scooter segment lacks a strong mid-range option. While Keeway offers the Sixties 300i and Vieste 300 with a 278.2cc engine at a price point around Rs. 3.3 lakh (ex-showroom), the only other option is the much pricier BMW C400GT with a 350cc engine, costing a hefty Rs. 11.25 lakh (ex-showroom).
Yamaha’s entry with a high-capacity sporty scooter priced around Rs. 8 lakh could be a game-changer, offering a compelling alternative for scooter enthusiasts seeking a balance between power, features, and value.
