Mahindra’s latest endeavor into the realm of electric vehicles comes with a fresh set of names: XUV 7XO, 5XO, 3XO, and 1XO. The addition of the “X” in these names signifies their electric underpinnings, while the “O” at the end aligns with Mahindra’s tradition of vehicle naming, reminiscent of classics like the Bolero and Scorpio.
These names strike a balance between relating to their internal combustion engine (ICE) counterparts and standing out with their simplicity and memorability, ensuring a high recall value similar to their ICE counterparts.
Features
Despite being electric, the styling cues of the XUV 7XO, 5XO, 3XO, and 1XO are expected to share common elements with their ICE counterparts, albeit with distinct characteristics. The equipment list is likely to mirror that of the ICE models, albeit with a potential enhancement in tech features for the EV versions.
Mahindra aims to introduce segment-first features, such as the triple-screen dashboard spotted on the XUV.e9 test mule, which not only serves a functional purpose but also elevates the cabin’s aesthetic appeal.
While larger SUVs like the XUV 7XO and 5XO may feature this innovative dashboard, the XUV 3XO and 1XO might stick to a single touchscreen infotainment system. Moreover, expect advancements in connectivity and safety features, with the possibility of expanded ADAS kits for enhanced driving assistance.
Range and Battery
Powered by Mahindra’s new INGLO architecture, the upcoming EVs will boast battery packs ranging from 60 kWh to 80 kWh for larger SUVs. While the XUV 7XO and 5XO could offer both single-motor and dual-motor all-wheel-drive options, the XUV 3XO and 1XO may be limited to a single electric motor configuration.
Although detailed specs are yet to be unveiled, the new platform promises significant enhancements in performance, driving comfort, and versatility. Anticipate impressive ranges upwards of 400-450 km for the XUV 7XO, 5XO, and XUV 3XO, with the XUV 1XO offering a respectable range of about 200-250 km.
With advancements in charging infrastructure, the focus now shifts towards achieving faster recharge times, ensuring minimal downtime for users. However, Mahindra continues to explore newer battery technologies to push the boundaries of range and efficiency.
