The final of IPL 2019 is still memorable among Indian cricket fans for many reasons. In the final, two giants, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI) were up against eachother. MI won the match by only 1 run. But the gut Shane Watson showed during the match, with an injured leg was remarkable.

In the final, he scored 80 runs against 59 deliveries. In the knockout stage, Watson had been in good form which he continued in the final. But his fight went in vain as the team lost in the summit clash.

MS Dhoni showed trust on Shane Watson

Shane Watson was the hero of Chennai Super Kings’ victory against Delhi Capitals in the 12th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Apart from scoring 96 runs in the league match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, the Australian cricketer did not play any major innings throughout this season, but CSK captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and coach Stephen Fleming continued to trust Watson. As a result, at a crucial moment, the player led the team to victory in the second qualifier match against Delhi Capitals.

Watson’s innings also owed much to Du Plessis, who started scoring quickly as soon as he came in to make it easier for Watson to settle in. The former Australian cricketer thanked the South African captain for this. Watson said, “Faf batted beautifully. Thank you to Faf for helping me at that stage.”

Watson credited the experience of the players and coaching staff for Chennai’s victory. He said, “Age and experience are very positive things. With MS and Fleming, we played well from the start. When you have experienced players, you know what to expect. We are taking full advantage of the experience we have and will do so on Sunday (the day of the final match).”
