The batting maestro of India, Virat Kohli has bagged multiple records under his belt with his exciting batting skills. After receiving back to back ducks during the recently concluded Australia vs India ODI series, he bounced back with a fifty plus run innings. As we say, Kohli set many milestone with his batting work. One of those are at risk because of another Indian batter, who recently played brilliantly for team India. We are talking about Abhishek Sharma.
Following the conclusion of the ODI series between India and Australia, the two teams will now clash in a five-match T20I series, starting on October 29th. The first match will be played at the Manuka Oval in Canberra. This series is considered crucial in preparation for next year’s T20 World Cup. Team India will once again be looking to young opener Abhishek Sharma, who impressed everyone with his explosive batting in the 2025 Asia Cup. Now, he has a chance to break a major record held by Virat Kohli.
Abhishek Sharma can break Virat Kohli’s record
Abhishek Sharma has so far scored 849 runs in 23 innings across 24 matches, averaging 36.91. This means he is just 151 runs away from reaching 1,000 runs in his T20 International career. If he achieves this milestone in the next three innings, he will become the Indian player to reach 1,000 T20 International runs in the fewest innings. Currently, this record is held by Virat Kohli, who reached the milestone in 27 innings.
Abhishek Sharma is in dream form in 2025
Abhishek had a stellar performance in the 2025 Asia Cup. He scored 314 runs in six innings, averaging around 44 and having a strike rate close to 200. So far in 2025, Abhishek has scored 593 runs in 12 innings, averaging 49.41 and having a strike rate over 200. He has also hit 41 sixes and 56 fours.
