New Delhi: Following the Indian Premier League, the Indian cricket team is now gearing up for its upcoming series. A lengthy series is scheduled to be played between India and Australia, and the BCCI is expected to announce the squad for this tour very soon. While there is still some time before the series begins, discussions surrounding it have already commenced.
The focal point of these discussions is the sensational 15-year-old player, Vaibhav Suryavanshi. Given his explosive performance in the IPL, fans have begun clamouring for his selection at the international level. Beyond the IPL, he has also made a massive impact in domestic cricket.
When will the India-Australia series be played?
The BCCI has announced that two Test matches are scheduled to be played between India and Australia ‘A’ from September to October. These Test matches will be four-day fixtures. The series is set to take place in Puducherry from September 22 to October 11. The first unofficial Test is scheduled from September 22 to 25, while the second will be held from September 29 to October 2.
Vaibhav is likely to be included in India’s Under-19 squad
India’s Under-19 team is set to play three 50-over One Day International (ODI) matches against Australia’s Under-19 team. These matches will be played across venues in Rajkot and Ahmedabad. The series is scheduled to take place between September 18 and October 5. It is widely believed that Vaibhav Suryavanshi may be allowed to prove himself during this very Under-19 series. Having already made a significant name for himself within India, he now requires opportunities in a few more matches to further hone his skills.
The series will be crucial ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy
The Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test series is also scheduled to be played in January of the coming year. Its schedule has already been released. Before that, Australia’s A’team will tour India to acclimate themselves to the local weather conditions and pitches. The Border-Gavaskar Trophy is set to commence on January 21.
This series is being played as part of the World Test Championship cycle. Australia’s A’team had also toured India last year; however, several of their young players delivered underwhelming performances during that tour.
