Ind Vs Afg: The Indian cricket team secured a resounding victory against Afghanistan in the opening match of the ODI series. From the very beginning at the Dharamshala Stadium, it appeared that the Indian team would easily clinch the match; at no point did Afghanistan seem to hold the upper hand.

In this rain-affected 25-over match, Shubman Gill won hearts with a match-winning, unbeaten knock of 84 runs off 66 balls. With this victory, Gill also set a historic record, becoming the fastest Indian to score 3,000 runs in ODI cricket, surpassing Shikhar Dhawan in the process.

Shubman Gill Makes History

Shubman Gill has become the fastest batsman to complete 3,000 runs in ODI cricket for India, achieving the feat in his 61st innings. He surpassed former Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan, who had reached this milestone in his 72nd innings.

On the global stage, Gill ranks second among the fastest players to reach the 3,000-run mark in ODIs. While he touched the 3,000-run figure in his 61st innings, former South African batsman Hashim Amla holds the top spot on the list, having completed 3,000 runs in his 57th ODI innings.

Spotlight on Gill’s Match-Winning Innings

The first ODI between India and Afghanistan was reduced to 25 overs per side due to rain. Batting first, Afghanistan scored 194 runs. Chasing a target of 195, the Indian team got a steady start from Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill. Rohit was run out after scoring 16 runs. Subsequently, Gill partnered with Ishan Kishan to forge a crucial 70-run stand for the second wicket in just 43 balls.

Ishan was dismissed after scoring 34 runs off 22 balls, an innings that included three fours and a six. However, Gill held firm at one end and stayed unbeaten until he steered the team to victory. He scored an unbeaten 84 off 66 balls, hitting 11 fours and 2 sixes. Meanwhile, KL Rahul remained unbeaten on 39 off 19 balls.
