The Indian team lost the second ODI played at Raipur’s Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium on Wednesday by four wickets despite scoring 358 runs. With this, South Africa equalized the series 1-1. In this match, Prasidh Krishna and Harshit Rana bowled very poorly. Harshit gave 70 runs in 10 overs while Prasidh gave away 85 runs in 8.2 overs.

Lecture from an angry Rohit Sharma

Seeing the poor bowling of both, Rohit Sharma got furious in the middle of the field. He stopped Krishna at his mark, then called Rana and gave a strong lecture to both the young pacers on how to stop the South African batsmen from hitting easy boundaries. The incident occurred during the 37th over of the South African chase. Prasidh Krishna bowled a dot ball after Matthew Breetzke had hit a boundary.

Rohit Sharma caught the Indian pacer as he was returning to his mark to prepare to bowl the last two balls of the over. Rohit wasn’t happy with Prasidh’s line and pace. He called Harshit along with Prasidh and gave him a stern reprimand. Rohit’s hand movements and facial expressions clearly indicated he was reprimanding both of them.

Rohit Sharma was upset

He was likely upset with their line and length, especially Prasidh, who was bowling to Breetzke and Dewald Brevis. After listening to Rohit’s lecture, Krishna finished the over well, conceding just one run off the last two balls, but it still cost 16 runs. By that time, Prasidh had taken just one wicket in his six overs and conceded 64 runs.

Chasing 359 to stay in the three-match series, South Africa won the second ODI thanks to a brilliant century from opener Aiden Markram (110). After his dismissal, two young players, Breitzke (68) and Dewald Brevis, took charge. Both scored quick half-centuries.

Brevis took a tough stand against the Indian bowlers, hitting five sixes in his innings of 54 off 34 balls. Corbin Bosch made a fine cameo in the end, helping South Africa achieve their highest chase away from home and level the series.
