The Vijay Hazare Trophy is currently underway in India. There are many players who put their maximum efforts to show their talents. But there is a batter, who has been delivering with consistency. We are talking about Devdutt Padikkal.

Devdutt Padikkal created history by scoring runs constantly

India’s Devdutt Padikkal is constantly in the news, but it’s another matter that he doesn’t get many opportunities to play for the Indian team. Now, in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, Devdutt has shown his talent. He has become the first and only batsman to score more than 600 runs in three seasons of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. This had never happened before.

Devdutt achieved this feat for the first time in 2019-20. Then he scored 609 runs. After this, in 2020-21, Devdutt Padikkal scored 737 runs. Now, in this year, i.e. 2025-26, he has managed to score more than 605 runs.

On Tuesday, Devdutt Padikkal played a Vijay Hazare Trophy match against Rajasthan. Opening the innings, he scored 91 runs off just 82 balls. However, he missed out on a century. During his innings, Padikkal hit 12 fours and two towering sixes.

Although he didn’t score a century in this innings, Devdutt Padikkal has managed to score four centuries in the last six innings of this tournament. He has been dismissed before 50 runs only once. This shows how tremendous form Devdutt is in at the moment.

Devdutt Padikkal has played only two Tests and two T20 Internationals for India so far. He scored 90 runs in these two Tests and 38 runs in two T20 Internationals. He has yet to make his ODI debut. It was expected that given his batting performance, he might be selected for the ODI series against New Zealand, but he didn’t find a place there.

Now it remains to be seen how long the BCCI selection committee will keep an eye on Devdutt Padikkal, as he is already doing his job by scoring runs.
