Former Team India batsman Robin Uthappa has explained why it is important to manage the workload of India’s star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah. Uthappa has said that his action and high speed put immense pressure on his body and it becomes very important to manage his workload to keep him fully fit.
Robin Uthappa said about Jasprit Bumrah and his workload management
Bumrah was rested for the three-match ODI series against South Africa and returned for the five-match T20 series. However, he did not play one match due to personal reasons and one match was not held due to fog. He will play in the last T20 match at home.
“He’s an exceptional match-winner, and managing his workload is crucial,” Robin Uthappa said on JioStar’s ‘Cricket Live’. “Fast bowling is perhaps the most difficult skill in the game, and Bumrah does it at a very high speed and with a challenging action. You want him to be fully fit, but you also want him to play enough cricket. We’re all aware of his talent, and hopefully, he’ll be able to maintain consistency in the matches leading up to the World Cup.”
Dale Steyn also opined
South Africa’s performance has been volatile so far, but former fast bowler Dale Steyn said his team has performed better than expected on the India tour. “Winning the Test series was great, and they put up a strong challenge in the ODIs as well,” Steyn said. “They lost the first ODI despite winning the toss. Had they won that match, they could have won the ODI series 2-1.” The legendary fast bowler said that if India wins the T20 series, they deserve it.
He said, “India has been the better team in the three T20 Internationals played so far. They bowled South Africa out cheaply in one match, leaked runs in another, but dominated again in Dharamsala. If India wins this series, I would say they did a great job. They deserve it. But I hope South Africa bounces back. They’ve had a great tour.”
