According to a PTI report, the Indian cricket team for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 is expected to be announced in the first week of January. Suryakumar Yadav will lead the team in the World Cup. Star T20 players like Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Varun Chakravarthy, Kuldeep Yadav, and Arshdeep Singh are considered confirmed in this squad.
Jitesh Sharma and Sanju Samson could be selected as wicketkeeper-batsmen. Shubman Gill will partner Abhishek Sharma and could also serve as vice-captain. Shimrav Dubey could also make the squad as a pace all-rounder. Washington Sundar and Axar Patel would also be options for all-rounders.
A total of 20 teams are participating in the T20 World Cup 2026. This is the first time that 20 teams are participating in the tournament, Italy is going to play its first T20 World Cup.
