India registered a resounding victory in the third ODI against South Africa. Virat Kohli scored two centuries and an unbeaten half-century, earning him the Player of the Series award. Rohit Sharma also contributed significantly to the team’s victory by scoring two crucial half-centuries.

Gautam Gambhir said his vision about Harshit Rana

Speaking to the media, Gambhir said, “Rohit and Virat are excellent players. I’ve said many times that they are world-class players. Their experience and performance have had a profound impact on Indian cricket for a long time. Their contributions in the dressing room and their leadership in matches are both very important to the team. I hope they continue to perform with such brilliance.”

Regarding Harshit Rana, Gambhir said, “We are trying to develop a player like Harshit in such a way that he can make a significant contribution to the team while batting at number eight. We need to balance the team, as we will need three good fast bowlers for the 2027 ODI World Cup in two years. If Harshit establishes himself as a bowling all-rounder, it will be very beneficial for the team.”

Gambhir also praised the performances of fast bowlers Arshdeep Singh and Prasidh Krishna in the series. He said, “The performances of Arshdeep, Prasidh, and Harshit were incredible. These three don’t have much experience, especially in the 50-over format. They have played barely less than 15 ODIs, but they performed brilliantly and played a key role in the team’s victory.”

The win has boosted Team India’s confidence and head coach Gambhir made it clear that by giving consistent opportunities to the young players, they will be prepared for big tournaments like the 2027 ODI World Cup.
