Australia defeated England by eight wickets on Sunday to take a 2-0 lead in the five-match Test series. A heated exchange between England fast bowler Jofra Archer and Australia’s stand-in captain Steve Smith took place late on the fourth day of the Pink Ball Test. This high-voltage exchange occurred as Australia was closing in on a modest 65-run target for victory.

Exchange of heat between Steve Smith and Jofra Archer

The rivalry between the two players from Lord’s 2019 once again reached its peak in the ninth over of Australia’s innings at the Gabba in Brisbane. Jofra Archer was consistently bowling at speeds of over 150 kilometers per hour, targeting Australia captain Steve Smith. Smith, however, immediately launched a barrage of shots against Archer, hitting fours and sixes in the over.

During this, when Archer said something to Smith after bowling bouncers continuously, Smith also did not back down. Smith was heard giving a befitting reply to Archer in the stump mic. He said, “When nothing is happening, bowl fast, champion!”

After a heated exchange with Smith, Archer again bowled another fast bouncer, on which Smith hit a brilliant pull shot and sent the ball across the boundary line for a six. With this six, Smith gave a befitting reply to Archer with his batting and brought Australia very close to victory.

Steve Smith and Jofra Archer also engaged in a verbal war during the 2019 Ashes series. During the Lord’s Test, a powerful bouncer from Archer struck Smith on the neck, forcing him to leave the field with a concussion. Since then, cricket fans have eagerly awaited the clash between these two greats. This latest clash at the Gabba has become a fresh chapter in that long-standing rivalry.
