Suryakumar Yadav once again flopped as a batsman in the third T20I, scoring just 12 runs. Surya hasn’t scored a single half-century in T20Is this year, raising questions. Fans are disappointed to see Surya, once considered the king of T20 cricket, in such a state. Furthermore, former Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar has also reacted to Surya’s poor batting form and offered some specific advice.

Sunil Gavaskar gave advice to Suryakumar Yadav

During his commentary session, Gavaskar offered his opinion on Surya, suggesting that he should put the pick-up shot on the back burner for a while. Gavaskar said, “Suryakumar should put the pick-up shot in cold storage for now and wait for the right opportunity to use it.”

Speaking about Surya, India’s legendary captain, Gavaskar further said, “This has been a very beneficial shot for him. Now, when you are out of form, this shot is going high in the air instead of going the distance, and is landing well inside the boundary. So, perhaps, until he gets back in form, he should keep this shot in cold storage, because it is getting him out and India doesn’t need Suryakumar Yadav to score just 12 runs.”

Suryakumar Yadav’s recent T20I stats

Suryakumar has now played 21 T20I innings for India without scoring a half-century, and it’s crucial for the Indian captain to regain his form before the crucial T20 World Cup, scheduled to be held in India and Sri Lanka in February-March next year.

Surya’s lack of runs is also causing concern for coach Gautam Gambhir. Surya has batted in a total of 18 T20I innings this year, scoring just 213 runs at an average of 14.20 and a strike rate of 125.29. His last T20I half-century came against Bangladesh in Hyderabad in 2024. He scored 75 runs in that match.
