At this time, the cricket world is fully immersed in the celebration of the IPL. The biggest stars of cricket are currently playing in the tournament. BCCI is also working hard to ensure the successful organisation of this league.
Meanwhile, BCCI has made a big decision. The BCCI Ombudsman has banned the owner of a team for life. However, this franchise is not part of the IPL. The decision has been taken against the owner of a Mumbai T20 League team. The name of the person is Gurmeet Singh Bhamrah. He has been accused of match-fixing by the BCCI’s Anti-Corruption Unit. This information was shared by the news agency ANI.
BCCI Ombudsman Justice Arun Mishra has stated that this case is related to the semi-final match of the 2019 season. According to the order, Gurmeet had approached a player to fix the match, and the player reported the matter to the concerned authorities. As a result, Gurmeet has been banned for life.
Earlier, the Anti-Corruption Unit of the BCCI had launched an investigation against Gurmeet, during which he was found guilty. Following the investigation, the case was referred to the Ombudsman. After considering several factors, Justice Arun Mishra imposed a lifetime ban on Gurmeet. It was also revealed that the team owner had financial involvement in cricket leagues of other countries, including the Canadian League.
Corruption Not Tolerated
Justice Arun Mishra emphasized that strict action must be taken against offenses like match-fixing, which is why such severe punishment was given. Since the IPL spot-fixing case in 2013, the BCCI has maintained a zero-tolerance policy toward corruption in cricket leagues and does not overlook any form of negligence.
