Ration Card-Aadhaar Linking: The government provides benefits under its public distribution (ration) scheme to ration cardholders across the country. However, to avail of these benefits, your ration card must be linked to your Aadhaar card. Only if your Aadhaar card is linked to your ration card are you eligible to receive these benefits. The government mandates this linking to verify the identity of all family members, which also helps in curbing the inclusion of fraudulent beneficiaries.

Previously, linking a ration card with an Aadhaar card often required multiple visits to government offices. This is no longer necessary; you can now complete the process online through the official website of your state’s Department of Food and Civil Supplies. Alternatively, you can also get your Aadhaar linked (Aadhaar seeding) by visiting a nearby ration shop. Let’s look at this process in detail.

How do you link your ration card with Aadhaar online?
If you wish to link your ration card with your Aadhaar card from the comfort of your home, follow these steps:
First, visit the official website of your state’s Department of Food and Civil Supplies.
On the homepage, seek an option such as “Link Aadhaar with Ration Card”, “Aadhaar Seeding”, or “Ration Card e-KYC”.
Enter your ration card number and the Aadhaar numbers of your family members.
Enter the OTP (One-Time Password) received on the mobile number linked to your Aadhaar card in the designated field.
After verifying all the information, click the “Submit” button.
Once the process is complete, you may see a confirmation or a reference number on the screen; please save it for future reference.

How to link your ration card with Aadhaar offline?
If you encounter any issues with the online process, or if you do not have access to the mobile number linked to your Aadhaar, you can complete the linking process offline.
To do this, visit your nearest government ration shop or the relevant local office of the Department of Food and Civil Supplies. For Aadhaar seeding, you are required to submit documents such as a photocopy of your ration card, a copy of your Aadhaar card, a passport-sized photograph, and a copy of your bank passbook.
Next, you must complete Aadhaar verification at the ration shop using a Point of Sale (POS) machine by providing your fingerprint or thumb impression.
Once the process is complete, ensure you obtain a receipt and the details of your application. You can also verify the status of your Aadhaar seeding via an SMS or through the designated portal.

Why is it necessary to link your ration card with your Aadhaar card?
The primary objective of linking a ration card with an Aadhaar card is to accurately identify beneficiaries. This helps prevent irregularities, such as an individual holding multiple ration cards. Furthermore, it enhances transparency within the Public Distribution System (PDS). If you do not receive your rations because the Aadhaar linking or e-KYC process has not been completed, please seek clarification from the Food Department or your local ration shop.
