Big News for Agniveers: During his visit to Gonda, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath made a significant announcement for ‘Agniveers’ (recruits under the Agnipath scheme). While inaugurating and laying the foundation stones for 69 projects worth Rs 520 crore in Tejpur village—located in the Gaura assembly constituency of Gonda—the Chief Minister made two major, historic announcements for the state’s youth and underprivileged families.
He emphasised that providing dignified employment to the youth who contribute to the nation’s security is a priority for his government. The tenure for Agniveers will now be extended from 4 years to 6 years; this decision has already been approved by the Cabinet.
Jobs and 20% Reservation for Agniveers
Addressing a public meeting in Gonda, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath stated that the state government would absorb Agniveers—who complete their four-year service in the armed forces under the central government’s ‘Agnipath’ scheme—into various state government departments.
The Chief Minister said, “Upon returning after their four-year service, Agniveers will be provided with a 20 per cent reservation in the Police, PAC (Provincial Armed Constabulary), Home Guards, Forest Department, Prison Department, and other government departments.”
Extension for 75% of Agniveers
75 per cent of the Agniveers will receive a two-year extension to their service. The remaining 25 percent—those with a ‘low profile’ (performance-wise)—will not be granted an extension. Crucially, these Agniveers will be recruited directly into government positions without the need for any written examination.
Free, pre-filled LPG cylinder before Diwali
Ahead of Diwali, CM Yogi announced that every underprivileged family would be provided with a cooking gas (LPG) connection. Furthermore, a fully-filled LPG cylinder will be provided free of cost just before the festival of Diwali.
